I will tell you today in detail and as objectively as possible about the pros and cons of the Canon PowerShort G3 X camera. When I searched the web for reviews on this camera, I found only one good review on this camera and realized that I needed to take matters into my own hands, since I still had it. At the end of the review I will give a link to the very good review that I found myself.
First, about what I needed this camera for. I am a video blogger on the YouTube platform. I already had a video camera from Panasonic. I've been shooting videos on this camera for about 2 years and it upset me with the "picture quality", read more in the review, I won't write about it here, so as not to duplicate it.
To choose the following camera, start according to the parameters: a rotary screen, I definitely need it to know whether the desired object gets into focus or not, a large battery capacity, a "cinematic picture", this can be attributed to all cameras, amateur video cameras do not achieve this effect, IMHO, the ability to connect an external microphone and the ability to connect to the camera via Wi-Fi. This was the main thing, the rest - I already looked at a specific model.
The G7 X camera is popular among bloggers, but I brushed it off because there was no way to connect an external microphone. And quite by chance I came across a video comparison of the G7 and G3 models. I compared these cameras again and realized that I needed the G3.
Now my opinion about the pros and cons of this model.
Advantages of Canon PowerShot G3 X:
- rotary screen. This is my universal love. It is so convenient and pleasant when the screen is above the lens, and not somewhere on the side. The main thing is still to look into the lens, and not at yourself, your beloved
- multiple shooting modes. I'll be honest, I haven't studied everything yet, and I'm still photographing and shooting in semi-automatic mode. I really like that the exposure can be changed directly with the wheel. This is very convenient: I made it lighter or darker right in the process of recording the video
- microphone slot. The sound in the camera itself is not bad, but I want to have a sound without extraneous noise at all, (well, or at least with a minimum. This is exactly what can be achieved with a microphone. I have the simplest buttonhole with Aliexpress. He has been serving me faithfully for 2.5 years. Only I changed the battery in it once or twice
- the ability to connect the camera via Wi-fi. You can connect via Wi-Fi and immediately view photos on your phone and transfer them to your phone, also transfer videos. You can also take photos by controlling remotely. But, it is impossible to record video remotely by controlling. This is important to know for those who are going to use the camera for video shooting, because for some reason I thought that video could also be recorded through the phone. But I also really like taking photos using the app. The images are sharp because the camera is on a tripod and you can adjust it on the phone screen: what will be in focus and make the frame. The battery on the phone at the same time eats Wi-Fi very much
- very large optical zoom. It's cool and that's it. But I don't care. I want to try blurring the background at a great distance and maybe I will also get into this zoom. And so specifically I don't need it and it's not important
- lens cap and strap included. I don't know why I attribute this to the pros and note it in general, but I like so much that the lens cap is tied with this string and that it can be attached to the strap when you take pictures and you don't need it and it gets in the way. It's so cute. And I really missed it in my DSLR camera
- great recording quality. I really like: how this camera shoots. I really enjoy editing. Yes, Canon turns yellow, there is such a thing, but it seems to add the sun to the photo. The picture is "very cinematic" and cozy. I don't even know how else to describe it, but turning on two videos immediately shows the difference
I don't know anymore: what else should be noted separately in the advantages of this camera. For me, all the advantages are significant and it is for these reasons that I took this camera.
Further on about the disadvantages, but they are not so significant for me.
Disadvantages of Canon PowerShot G3 X:
- inconvenient location of the memory card slot. All in one place with a battery. if you install the camera on a tripod, but you just can't get the card. You have to remove the camera from the tripod, unscrew the mount on the camera and only then you can open the compartment with the card and battery. It's inconvenient. On a SLR camera, this camera slot is on the side and you just take out the card and change it to another one or clean the card and insert it again.
- be careful with the touch screen. If you carry a camera with you and generally actively use it, then you definitely need to buy a film for the screen.
- large lens. The camera itself is compact, but the lens is really big and it can't be removed. Therefore, in the end, the camera will take up a lot of space in your backpack or bag. For me, this is not a minus at all, and I understood this when buying, because the camera is more stationary for me. But if you plan to buy it for trips and travel, then keep this in mind.
- and the minus, which is to blame for the marriage of the lens, most likely is autofocus, which highlights what it wants. He highlights his eyes in the frame, but if you look away from the camera, then the focus will crawl away somewhere. This is infuriating, because the frame turns out to be "jerky". or you need to constantly look into the frame like an automaton, preferably without even blinking.
I hope I managed to explain my position on this camera and you clearly understood for yourself: what is suitable for you in the camera and what is not.
I compared the price of this camera on the Yandex Market website. I didn't take it at the cheapest price and chose a store that could provide installments from the bank. The cost of the camera is 49,000 money for February 2019. This is a lot, but if you earn money with your blog, then you can afford it. It's best, of course, to save up for it first and generally be sure that you won't quit your blog in a couple of months. For video recording, in my opinion, the camera is excellent. I can't say yet how she will behave after a year or two of active work, but I promise to supplement the review.

So, my camera stayed with me for about six months and at the most crucial moment, or rather, the recording of master classes began to turn off spontaneously, and then completely give the error E20. Moreover, he didn't do it all the time: sometimes he worked, and sometimes he didn't. I was nervous for a week and went to the Canon service center. The camera was taken from me and they said that if the case is guaranteed, then in 2-3 days they will start repairing, and all repairs will be in the region of 2-3 weeks. The maximum period is 2 months. Now 2 months have almost passed. The last time I called the service to find out about the repair status, they told me that they hadn't even received spare parts yet. So the question arises: how to buy a camera for 50,000 money, and then stay without it for 2 months?!
I will unsubscribe about the results of the repair. I understand that this is a marriage and no one is immune from this, but I do not recommend this camera for purchase. As explained to me in the service: the camera is not popular and it is rarely bought and it is also difficult to get the details for it. I hope for a refund and I will not buy a Canon camera anymore.
